Massage therapy may be recommended by a physician after an injury, before or after surgery, or as a non-narcotic form of pain relief. Also known as medical massage, or clinical massage, massage therapy of this type is done in order to alleviate pain, tension and stress, and to help in healing after surgery.
Therapeutic massage can be performed by licensed massage therapists who have undergone training on how to treat specific problems. My Happy Place owner
Vicki is a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMP) and Certified Medical Massage Practitioner (CMMP) and has expertise working in the areas of medical massage, oncology, geriatrics, fibromyalgia and more.
Getting therapeutic massage has helped many of our clients deal with chronic pain and other medical problems. Massage therapy can help reduce the need for pain medications and prescription muscle relaxants. Our goal is to help you utilize therapeutic massage to help manage your pain and medical problems.
Medicare does not cover massage therapy, but some private insurers might. If you have a written prescription for massage therapy from your doctor or chiropractor, check with your insurance company to see if they will reimburse you for part of the costs. For insurance purposes, massage therapy falls under the category of alternative medicine or complementary medicine, along with things like acupuncture. Requests for coverage of therapeutic massage may be handled on a case by case basis.
In any event, it will be your responsibility to pay for your massage therapy at the time of your appointment, and then you can seek reimbursement from your insurance company. We do not accept insurance at this time.
